High Mileage Cars

high mileage cars and alternative fuels

High mileage cars, like hybrids, electric cars, and diesel, have become very popular in recent years.

The reason for such a phenomenon?

Well, like many of us, drivers of hybrids and other high mpg vehicles are concerned with the rising gas prices.

However, saving money on gas is not the primary concern for hybrid buyers. In fact, saving money is on the back burner as hybrids are among the most expensive vehicles on the market.

Truth be told, there are other, more important reasons that drivers are switching to hybrid cars.

  1. Reduce Dependence on Foreign Oil and
  2. Save the Environment

If you've followed our advice to improve gas mileage in your current vehicle, you are already doing your part.

Not only are you going to save money on gas, but you're going to decrease your emissions and reduce your need for fossil fuels.

As Al Gore would say, you're reducing your carbon footprint.

However, if you want to make a larger impact, and you have the money to spend, a hybrid or other fuel efficient car could be for you!

In this section of Improve-Gas-Mileage-Guide.com, you'll learn about the various hybrids to help you decide which is best for you.

Among the most popular of all the hybrids are the following:

  1. Toyota Prius
  2. Hybrid SUV Models such as the Ford Escape Hybrid
  3. Honda Civic Hybrid

A shortage of the rare earth metals used in hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius has been in the news. See our take on it at Toyota Prius Rare Earth Metals

The Toyota Prius has also been the subject of a safety recall. If you drive a Prius be sure to check the recall out here, Toyota Prius Recall.

There are also less expensive, non-hybrid high mileage cars as well as standard transmission versions of popular, non-hybrid vehicles that often get better gas mileage.

Oh, and did we mention the hybrid tax credit and other incentives and rebates for alternative fuel and fuel efficient vehicles?

The trick is to do your research and make an informed decision before purchasing any new car, especially one with newer technology.

The Federal Government has issued new vehicle gas mileage standards which you can see here, New Vehicle Gas Mileage Standards
